The format
One game. Three leagues.
The Scramble is a team grappling game. Two teams of six play six rotations of two minute rounds. Everybody plays everybody. Most points wins.
The hour
How the session runs
| Block | Time |
|---|---|
| Chalk Talk | 10 minutes |
| Prep Games | 15 minutes |
| Water break | 5 minutes |
| The Scramble | 48 minutes |
| Cool down | 10 minutes |
A rotation
Three matches at once
Three matches run at the same time. Six players working, six resting and reffing. Two minutes, swap sides, two minutes back. Then the teams shift and nobody repeats a matchup.
Working
Six players on the mats across three simultaneous matches.
Resting
The other six rest, keep the clock and referee.
Swap
Two minutes, swap sides, two minutes back.
Shift
Teams shift so no matchup happens twice.
Scoring
A round produces one score at most
A catch or submission scores the same. In Rec, players only catch — the hold is locked, held for a three count, and the round ends there. Nothing is ever finished.
Position win
One point.
Catch or submission
One point.
Catch or submission under 30s
Two points.
Nobody scores
The round is a draw.
Three kinds of game
What a round can be
Pass games
Start in a guard.
Pin games
Start in a pin.
Challenge games
Set a target instead of a position.
Safety
The tap ends the round
The tap is instant
It ends the round immediately, for any reason. Nobody has to be finished to use it.
No slams
Ever.
No cranking
Nothing forced past control.
Finish under control
And let go on the tap.
The whole thing takes ninety minutes and one coach can run it.
