Rec League
No rank, no commitment, all fun.
A recreational team sport you can turn up to on a Saturday.
What it is
A team game played on a mat
No gi to buy, no belt to chase, no ten year plan. You turn up, you get drawn onto a team, you play.
Catches only, no submissions
Rec players never finish a submission. A catch is locked, held for a three count, and the round ends — so nobody gets cranked, nobody gets hurt, and you go to work on Monday. Control is the win.
Who plays
Adults of any age, kids from three up
Any fitness level. No experience needed, and most people arrive with none.
Three levels
You move up on games played
Not on anybody judging you.
| Level | What it opens |
|---|---|
| Beginner | Position only |
| Intermediate | Adds catches |
| Advanced | Opens up the challenge games |
The rules
How a Rec round is won
Position wins it
Pass and hold a five count, or keep a pin for the rest of the round. One point.
Catches are held, never finished
A catch is locked and held for a three count. The round ends there. One point. No submission is ever completed in Rec.
No score is a draw
A round produces one score at most. Nothing is judged and nothing is awarded on effort.
Built so you don't get hurt
The tap is instant and ends the round for any reason. No slams, no cranking, no heel hooks, no neck cranks. Two minute rounds and a partner who has to let go.
The goal
Play, come back, move up
For the team
Most points across the six rotations takes the game.
For you
Games played move you up a level. Nobody grades you and there is nothing to pass.
What to bring
Shorts and a shirt. No membership to sign and no kit to buy before your first game.
